About Lawndale

Heart of the South Bay

Lawndale, Los Angeles County

Lawndale was laid out in 1905 by Charles Hopper, who named it for a neighborhood of Chicago, and it incorporated in 1959. The city covers just under two square miles along Hawthorne Boulevard and calls itself the Heart of the South Bay. The beach at Redondo is about three miles to the west, and the 405 freeway crosses the southern edge of town.
